Huge line-up of events for Mayo Day

Tomorrow, Saturday April 30, will see the second ever Mayo Day take place across the county and the globe, with 35 events planned for towns and villages in the county over the weekend. Mayo Day is a celebration of our 'Mayo-ness' in Mayo communities worldwide, it offers Mayo people at home and away an opportunity to celebrate all that is great about their progressive, can-do county.

Get active for Spring Forward festival

Westport Smarter Travel is holding a host of events to celebrate the summer, the longer days, and achievements of Westport Smarter Travel and the community. The festival which kicked off on Wednesday and runs until Saturday April 30 and will began with a Walk to Work (WOW) day, and last night Thursday April 21, the Westport Operation Transportation winners were announced at an award ceremony in Westport Town Hall. The participants and winners received their awards from a very special guest, Luke Concannon of Nizlopi, most well known for "The JCB Song" which reached number one in the UK and Irish charts.

Climate change conference at Knock Shrine

A one-day conference entitled Climate Change and Me: Rising to the Laudato Si Challenge will take place at Knock Shrine on Saturday April 30. The event is being planned and co-ordinated by the Faith Renewal team at Knock Shrine, headed by Fr Richard Gibbons, in response to Pope Francis’ encyclical, Laudato Si, which highlights the great need for discussion and debate about the issue of climate change. ‘On Care For Our Common Home’, the encyclical critiques consumerism and irresponsible development, laments environmental degradation and global warming, and calls on all people of the world to take "swift and unified global action."

Mayo Day celebrations to be broadcast live

A special live broadcast to celebrate Mayo Day will go out on IRISH TV on Saturday April 30 next as part of a weekend long convention celebrating all things Mayo. The Mayo Association World Convention hosted by the Dublin Mayo Association in partnership with Mayo County Council takes place over the weekend of Friday April 29 to Sunday May 1 in the Broadhaven Bay Hotel in Belmullet.

Mayo associations world convention to take place in Belmullet

Muintir Mhaigh Eo Atha Cliath have announced the 2016 World Convention is scheduled to take place from April 29 to the May 1 at the Broadhaven Bay Hotel, Belmullet. This event which is hosted every two years by one of the Mayo Associations globally provides the network of associations scattered across the globe an opportunity to connect, network and strengthen ties  with each other. The convention will ensure the associations continue to remain strong, vibrant, and purposeful at a time when more and more Mayo people are emigrating and building roots away from their home county and in need of support from the Mayo diaspora. The Association will officially launch the world convention for 2016 at Knock Airport this evening, Friday April 1 at 7.30 pm. Friends and supporters of the Association at home and away are cordially invited to attend the launch.

Mayo County Council takes home the award for Most Innovative Authority

The LAMA Community and Council Awards 2016, presented by IPB Insurance and LAMA, took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Northwood Dublin at the end of January. The awards recognise and celebrate community and councils together. They provide a great opportunity to highlight and celebrate the work done within communities and to reward unsung heroes.
